Digital Story

Intro: For my digital story I am doing video game addiction. Kids who play video games are becoming more and more addicted. I have friends who will sit in their rooms for hours when new games come out and will be anti social. World of warcraft is known as an extremely addictive game. Reports have been done and its shown that they cause kids social, emotional, and physical problems. Things I would include: -kids buying the game and avoiding school -kids not leaving their rooms -effects of the game on weight -how it causes them to be anti social These games will continue to become more and more addictive. It is even resulting in lower self esteem for these participants. They put on weight which leads to them feeling bad about themselves. For my digital story id like to put together a cause and effect diagram from playing this with comics. In one of the comics I would have someone right before they started to play the game. I would let that one lead into another comic which would show someone after they've been playing the game for a while. This is after they've put on weight, avoided all social gatherings, and how they've gradually lost self esteem. This diagram would show kids what could happen if they begin to obsess over video games. On some occasions people have been so addicted they began to act as if they are in the game. Grand theft Auto 5 caused a friend of mine to speed on occasions because he had been so used to it in the game. Overall I think this could cause kids to rethink whether or not they are going to make the choice to get involved in this game.

how digital media is changing

digital and social media are changing rapidly now a days. a book club in california used " #Religion" to create a discussion. when you hashtag something whenever someone types in religion on twitter it allows them to see this post. This is a whole new way of being able to get the message across. social media is allowing you to connect yourself to religion. it is meshing two things one constantly does. Photos are constantly snapped for Instagram no matter where you are. whether you are eating dinner, at a sporting event or whatever digital media is taking over even more so then it already has. this is in my opinion a good thing because it will continue to make life easier.

Social Action project

For my social action project i would like to do it on people who don't get a job or lose their job by something they put on the internet in the past. this has been an increasingly relevant problem. colleges and jobs now a days hire people to look at peoples social networking sights. this is more so a social media issue rather than a digital media. i would like to do this by creating a comic strip saying acting out how people put something online and an interviewing committee finding it a few years later. the years later strip will show the person whose currently accessing the pictures of the person who has posted innaproprite pictures. this will be open to adjust but another way could be creating a video acting this out. i took a class last year on editing film so i have a little bit of experience with it. i found this article at http://www.infinity-cs.com/how-social-media-effect-next-job/

Social action project

I would use twitter and word of mouth to get the word out for my Social Action project. If I could get a famous person to retweet me on an issue then millions of people would have access to seeing it and it could really get the word out. Twitter is such a powerful recourse if it is used the right way. Word of mouth can also be really useful because if you get people talking about an issue and generate interest then they will continue to talk about it with others and word will spread. Both of these ideas can be very effective forms to create social action. Most people are unaware of issues going on today and if they don't know about them then how can they prevent them?

Social Action Project

There is a variety of ways one could promote justice with social media. 1. bullying is an increasing trend now a days people are made fun of for all sorts of things. whether its physical appearance, religion, or social status bullying happens in many different ways. its truly awful that people have to live with bullies and it should be stopped 2. Unjust working conditions and wages is quietly becoming a big thing. Big companies are doing all they can to work around regulated laws and overworking their employees. I recently read an article about how apple was cheating employees out of a couple thousand dollars by making them clock out but keeping them for an extra few minutes a day to be searched. This should be stopped because it isn't fair. 3. Internet privacy has also become a growing issue. Just about every american has some sort of social media account and the issue is that too many people have access to them. People can gain access to photos, personal info, or potentially credit card information with one simple click of the mouse. The question is where should the line be drawn? How much should someone be allowed to know?

Apple wages

The article I am blogging about involves people suing apple for millions of dollars because of unpaid wages. They would have to wait in line and take part in bag checks after they had clocked out. Apple's idea was right but they should've given the employees bag checks while they hadn't been clocked out. This is unjust and unfair. Members of the company are taking action now and apple would lose more than the few extra dollars they would've paid the employees. The article stated employees would wait 5 to 10 extra minutes each day which added up to them losing about 1500 dollars a year. That's a lot of money to lose by being at work and not getting anything. Apple is just trying to prevent items from being stolen so these bag checks are understandable but not paying their employees for the in convince just isn't right and should be fixed immediately.. http://abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=19826977
